Primal Performance Virtual Assessment™

Most golfers don't need more tips.

They need a complete understanding of why they perform the way they do.

The Primal Performance Assessment™ is a comprehensive evaluation of your entire golf operating system.

Rather than focusing on a single swing flaw, this assessment identifies the physical, technical, mental, and performance factors that influence your ability to play consistently under pressure.

Designed for serious golfers who want measurable improvement, the assessment combines swing analysis, performance testing, physical screening, and behavioral profiling to create a complete picture of your game.

The Evolution of the Primal Performance Assessment™

The Primal Performance Assessment™ is the culmination of more than two decades of research, player evaluation, and performance coaching. Its origins can be traced to the development of Biometric Sports AG, a comprehensive athlete assessment system created by Mike Wray to objectively evaluate golfers competing at the collegiate level.

Originally designed for NCAA Division I programs, Biometric Sports AG provided coaches with a standardized method for measuring a player's strengths, weaknesses, physical capabilities, technical skills, and long-term development potential. Rather than relying solely on tournament scores or subjective observation, the system integrated objective performance data, physical screening, swing evaluation, and player profiling into a comprehensive report that allowed coaches to make more informed decisions about player development.

The Biometric Sports AG system was implemented with several collegiate golf programs, including Arizona State University, Texas State University, and St. Mary's University, where it helped establish measurable benchmarks for evaluating talent and identifying opportunities for improvement. The assessment recognized that elite golf performance is influenced by far more than swing mechanics alone. Physical mobility, movement patterns, technical efficiency, decision-making, mental approach, and individual learning styles all contribute to a player's ability to perform consistently under pressure.

As Mike Wray's coaching philosophy evolved beyond player evaluation and into performance optimization, the assessment methodology expanded to address not only what a golfer does, but why they perform the way they do. Years of coaching golfers ranging from recreational players to elite competitors reinforced the belief that most performance issues are not isolated technical flaws but the result of an incomplete performance system.

This evolution ultimately led to the development of the Primal Performance Assessment™, a modern evaluation process designed specifically for today's golfer. While it builds upon the objective measurement principles established through Biometric Sports AG, the Primal Performance Assessment expands the scope to include performance psychology, motor learning, movement efficiency, rhythm and tempo, scoring performance, personality profiling, and individualized coaching strategies.

The assessment combines swing analysis, on-course performance testing, physical mobility screening, body measurements, and an in-depth player questionnaire to create a comprehensive picture of each golfer's complete performance operating system. The resulting report identifies the player's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT analysis) while providing a personalized Primal Improvement Plan™ that prioritizes the areas most likely to improve scoring and consistency.

Today, the Primal Performance Assessment serves as the foundation of the Primal Performance Coaching methodology. It reflects the belief that lasting improvement begins with understanding the complete golfer—not simply the golf swing. By integrating objective evaluation with personalized coaching, the assessment provides a roadmap for helping golfers perform with greater confidence, consistency, and enjoyment under pressure.

The Primal Performance Assessment represents the next generation of player evaluation—transforming the proven concepts first developed through Biometric Sports AG into a comprehensive performance coaching system for golfers at every level.

Phase One: Swing Analysis

Submit face-on and down-the-line swing videos with the clubs that define your game:

  • Driver

  • Fairway Wood

  • 7-Iron

  • Pitching Wedge

  • Putter

  • Your Favorite Club

  • Your Most Challenging Club

Each swing is evaluated for setup, movement patterns, sequencing, consistency, efficiency, and opportunities for improvement.

Phase Two: Performance Testing

Real performance is measured by outcomes—not opinions.

Complete the Five-Shot Performance Test by hitting five shots from each of the following distances:

  • Driver shot

  • 220-yard long approach shot

  • 160-yard mid approach shot

  • 100-yard scoring shot

  • 40-yard wedge shot

This testing establishes your current performance baseline for distance control, dispersion, consistency, and scoring ability.

Phase Three: Physical Screening

Your body influences every movement you make.

Complete five simple mobility screens evaluating:

  • Hip mobility

  • Core stability

  • Shoulder and arm mobility

  • Wrist mobility

  • Overall movement limitations

These screens help identify physical restrictions that may be affecting your golf swing or limiting performance.

Phase Four: Player Measurements

To better understand your natural movement patterns and equipment fit, you'll submit three key measurements:

  • Height

  • Arm segment lengths

  • Inseam

These measurements provide valuable context for posture, setup, leverage, and swing mechanics.

Phase Five: Performance Profile

Great golf begins with understanding the player—not just the swing.

You'll complete an in-depth questionnaire covering:

  • Golf experience

  • Practice habits

  • On-course tendencies

  • Mental approach

  • Personality traits

  • Performance beliefs

  • Competitive mindset

  • Short- and long-term goals

This information allows coaching recommendations to be tailored specifically to how you think, learn, and perform.

Your Personalized Golf Performance Report

After completing the assessment, you'll receive a comprehensive Golf Performance Report that evaluates every major component of your game. The report includes a complete SWOT analysis identifying your:

  • Strengths

  • Weaknesses

  • Opportunities

  • Threats

Rather than simply highlighting swing flaws, the report prioritizes the improvements that will have the greatest impact on lowering your scores and increasing consistency.

You'll also receive your personalized Primal Improvement Plan™, a prioritized roadmap outlining exactly what to improve, in what order, and why.

This plan serves as the blueprint for your future development, ensuring every practice session and coaching session is focused on the highest-return opportunities.

Next Steps

Once you've reviewed your report, you'll schedule your Primal Performance™ Evaluation, available virtually or in person.

During this one-hour session, we'll review your assessment, answer your questions, establish performance priorities, and begin implementing the Primal 90™, a 90-day, 10-session series as detailed in the Primal Improvement Plan™ .

From there, you can continue your development through personalized one-on-one coaching designed around your goals, schedule, and desired level of commitment.

The objective isn't simply to improve your golf swing.

It's to build a complete performance system that allows you to play with greater confidence, consistency, and enjoyment every time you step onto the course.
